Saving Iceland in Ireland

4th March

We gave a talk and screened a film about Iceland and Saving Iceland at the Dublin Anarchist Bookfair. At the Bookfair we also had an information stall and a photo exhibition from last summer's camp.

6th-8th March

After the Bookfair we headed to the beautiful Atlantic west coast of Ireland to meet with people involved in the Shell to Sea campaign and the Rossport Solidarity Camp. On Monday, 6th March we gave a presentation at a community center near Rossport. We spoke about the Saving Iceland campaign and people from the Shell to Sea Campaign shared their experiences. Many similarities and parallels were realised between the two campaigns, especially with respect to the conduct of the companies and governments. On Tuesday we were given a guided tour around the area and visited the Rossport Solidarity Camp.

Throughout the tour we do not intend to solely talk about the situation in Iceland, but also to share experiences with and learn from other individuals and campaigns. It is very valuable for us to meet people involved in similar struggles. By that we hope to create a stronger front against the devastation being caused to our communities and the environment for heavy industry and corporate profit. We thank the courageous people of Rossport for their hospitality and send them our solidarity.

The tour's next destination is the Iberian peninsula, starting in the Basque country.
